Literature in the Fine Arts 

This year we will be focusing on the aspect of literature in the various categories pertaining to the fine arts (music, theatre, film, art, photography, etc.). We will be involved with two different Literature Circles, one in the second quarter focused around different variations of well known fairy tales and another in the fourth quarter on the comedy Cyrano de Bergerac.. Lastly we will conduct a PBL (Project Base d Learning) assignment where you will choose a myth, fairy tale or fable and create a children's book from the point of view of another character. This class also involves displays of creation through art, film, photography and acting where you will bring your love for the arts to the class to better your understanding of the readings. Get excited! Here we go!

The Wicked

This quarter we will begin with the study of witchraft from the early works of Nathaniel Hawthorne onto the orignal works of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and continued into the well known Broadway production of Wicked. We will also be working on our writing, knowledge of what goes into a decade and more. This quarter will also begin our semester long PBL project where we will create a children's story. 

Let's get Grimm

This quarter we will be focusing on everything Grimm. We will compare the Grimm brothers fairy tales versus the Disney counterparts. Along with the fairy tales we will be traveling Into the Woods as well. 

The Rich & the Greedy

​

This quarter we will be focusing on the American Dream following the famous 1920's stroy, The Great Gatsby. Aside Gatsby we will be writing a research paper on an American Icon. We will also follow the theme with Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth adn show how royalty can be composed by the self centered. 

A Sword Fighting, Philosophizing, Poetic Playwright... â€‹

Our final quarter will be focused solely on Edmond Rostand's comedy, Cyrano de Bergerac.. Each class will choose a play they wish to read and we will work as a tam to understand the language and themes. Secondly, a Inspirational Unit will take form in your analysis on a story which has impacted you drastically.
